ABOUT BOWEN MARINA
In 2008, Marine Facilities Australia worked alongside a marine-based project management team and the Queensland Government to develop a comprehensive scheme to revitalise and enhance the Bowen Marina and its surrounding waterfront precinct. The vision for the project was to create an integrated, vibrant waterfront that balanced marine infrastructure, public amenity, and commercial opportunity.
The proposed development encompassed the entire harbour precinct and included a dry boat storage facility, public boat ramp, commercial and private berthing, car parking, a fish co-operative, residential and commercial developments, and landscaped public open spaces. The masterplanning process required careful coordination between marine engineering considerations, urban design principles, and government planning frameworks.
While the project was ultimately not progressed, it provided valuable experience in working closely with government bodies and navigating complex approval environments. The project remains a strong example of MFA’s capability in large-scale waterfront masterplanning, stakeholder coordination, and the integration of marine infrastructure within broader urban development strategies.
